Shemi Yechiel

Yehiel Shemi, Sculptor and Painter. Was born in 1922, Haifa. 

Studies: 1959-61 Paris, advanced studies.

Teaching: Oranim Art Institute, Tivon; 1977-78 Art School, Ein Hod, sculpture; 1977-79 Technion, Haifa, Lecturer on environmental design. 

Prizes: 1954 Dizengoff Prize; 1981 Sandberg Prize for Israeli Art, Israel Museum, Jerusalem; 1986 Israel Prize, together with Batia Lishinsky; 2000 Pundik Prize, Tel Aviv Museum.

Environmental Sculptures: 1958 Binyanei Hauma, Jerusalem; 1970 wall relief, Jerusalem Theatre; 1982 Nayot, Jerusalem; 1984 Ruppin Street, Jerusalem. 1986 sculpture and relief, Jerusalem Theatre, 1998 Raanana Sculpture Park.

1945-48 Stayed in U.S.A.

1955-65 Member of New Horizons Group. 

Lived in Kibbutz Cabri. Died November 2003.
