Gat Eliyahu

Eliyahu Gat was born 1919, Russia. Immigrated 1937.

Studies: 1938-39 Haifa Technion, architecture; 1945 at studio with Avni; 1946 Art Academy, Cairo; 1947-48 with Streichman and Stematsky; 1952 Beaux Arts, Paris; 1953-54 Art Teachers College, Ramat Hasharon.

Teaching: From 1965 Art Teachers College, Ramat Hasharon; 1979 Bezalel, Jerusalem; 1964-78 directed the Institute of Plastic Arts, Bat Yam.

Prizes: 1949 Prize in the name of six artists’ sons who fell in the War of Independence; 1959 Histadrut Prize; 1972 Ministry of Education Prize; 1978 Dizengoff Prize.

1939-42 Was a member of Kibbutzim Nir-Haim and Maoz Haim.

1951 A founder of the “Group of Ten”; 1973 founder of the “Aklim” Group.
